EHEALTH SOFTWARE DEVELOPMENT CENTRE OPENS IN SUMMERSIDE

RadNet, Inc., the largest owner and operator of freestanding outpatient medical diagnostic imaging centres in the United States, has opened a new software development centre in Summerside, says Innovation and Advanced Learning Minister Allan Campbell.

We have a very experienced workforce in Summerside in ehealth technology development and were very pleased to see a successful international company like RadNet come to the province to access this talent and create opportunities for these skilled workers, said Minister Campbell.

RadNet is a publicly traded company (NASDAQ:RDNT) with 4,300 employees and 200 centres across the United States. Expanding from its traditional focus on medical imaging, the company recently expanded into healthcare imaging Information Technology and professional radiology services delivery to hospitals by acquiring eRAD, Inc., a medical imaging software company, and Imaging On Call, a teleradiology services company. The Summerside team is initially developing software for RadNets internal use and assisting RadNet with more efficiently delivering its broad offering of diagnostic services to its patients, operating partners and referring physicians.

I.T. solutions allow us to streamline our clinical operations and connect us to referring physicians, operating partners and our patients, said Howard G. Berger, MD, president and CEO of RadNet. As the healthcare world rapidly adopts internet technologies delivered via mobile devices, we look to be on the leading edge of this transformation. On Prince Edward Island, we were happy to discover advanced software development talent that is both expert in these technologies, and experienced in creating powerful-yet-invisible systems. Dr. Berger adds, We look forward to expanding our team on the Island, as RadNet continues to expand its product portfolio to meet the needs of its customers. Government identified ehealth as a target for economic development in the Innovation and Prosperity Strategy, and this is an example of the type of opportunity our province can attract in this sector, said Minister Campbell. This is the latest ehealth company to locate in Summerside in the last 18 months, joining Enable Healthcare Canada and RMDDx. RadNet began operations in Summerside, August 2010 and currently employs ten software engineers.

The company anticipates eventually having 15 people employed at its Summerside operations. The PEI Government through IPEI will provide a labour rebate to Radnet over the next three years up to $530,000 based on an anticipated payroll in excess of $4,000,000 during this period.
