ENVIRONMENTALLY FRIENDLY SYSTEMS

Management and Board members of the Summerside Regional Development Corporation (SRDC), conducted a tour in November 2007, of the historic Holman building with Gerald Keddy, parliamentary secretary to Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA), Minister Peter MacKay and Richard Brown, PEIs Development and Technology minister. SRDC acquired the Holman property last March and began construction immediately following the purchase. SRDC General Manager

Arnold Croken explained that every consideration was given to incorporate environmentally friendly systems wherever possible. He reported that geothermal heating and cooling systems are included in the next phase of the renovations. The wells have been dug and the water supply is in place in order to heat and cool the building using this technology. Approximately 85,000 square feet of space will be available for lease by the time renovations are complete.

This historic property will become a focal point for the community of Summerside and the Province of Prince Edward Island. Carestream Health, a software development company currently employing 60 people, are located on the third floor. Renovations have included the installation of new exterior windows, replacement of mortar and older bricks, complete roof renovations and the installation of a new stairwell and elevator. Mr. Keddy and Minister Brown were very complimentary of the project and the efforts undertaken to date.
