ENABLE HEALTHCARE CANADA INC.

The Governments of Canada and Prince Edward Island, announced today a joint investment that will assist Enable Healthcare Canada Inc. to establish operations in Summerside. Thanks to the Governments support, the company will open a new development and support centre, benefiting customers who will use MDnet, a web-based system that aids doctors in their practice management.

The Honourable Gail Shea, Minister of Fisheries and Oceans and the Honourable Allan Campbell, PEI Minister of Innovation and Advanced Learning, were at the Holman Building in Summerside today to make the announcement. Minister Shea spoke on behalf of the Honourable Keith Ashfield, Minister of National Revenue, Minister of the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency and Minister for the Atlantic Gateway.

Our government is investing in new, skilled, job creating businesses in Prince Edward Island, said Minister Shea.

Investment in firms like Enable Healthcare enhances the competitiveness and productivity of the health sectors; creates skilled jobs in our communities; and strengthens the Atlantic Canadian economy. The Government of Canada, through ACOA, will invest close to $497,000 under the Business Development Program. Innovation Prince Edward Island will invest up to $200,000 from the Equity Investor Program. The company will also be eligible for up to $662,000 in labour wage rebates from the provincial government.

The decision by Enable Healthcare Canada Inc. to bring its operations to Summerside shows the ability of our Island workforce to compete and succeed in the information economy, said Minister Campbell. With the establishment of our Centre for Excellence in e-Health here at the Holman Building, I look forward to more companies recognizing the advantages of doing business on Prince Edward Island. Enable Healthcare Canada Inc. provides Electronic Health Records and Practice Management Systems to private physicians on a subscription basis. MDnet is a comprehensive web-based system that, among other things, keeps track of billing and claims, provides ePrescription connections with pharmacies and labs, allows for interactive-activated clinical scheduling, and insurance verification. While physicians can implement MDnet with minimal scientific knowledge about the product, Enable Healthcare Canada Inc. will be equipped for technical difficulties. The development and support centre in Summerside will provide MDnet users with 24-hour access to trained support personnel.

We are not only pleased to be creating sustainable, knowledge-based employment in Summerside, we are also planning to offer co-operative education employment options through post-secondary schools on the Island, says Peter Silas, co- founder of Enable Healthcare Canada Inc. We are looking forward to the opportunities Prince Edward Island has to offer, and the opportunities we can offer to Islanders. Anthony Subbiah, co-founder and Vice President of Strategic Marketing, says the company intends to be established in PEI before the end of April. The company will begin with six core employees and expects a need for as many as 20 employees by the end of their first year.

Enable Healthcare Canada Inc. set their sights on Prince Edward Island because of the near-shore proximity to the US market and more importantly, the availability of talented resources. The company will initially provide Prince County with about 20 knowledge based jobs, with the possibility of expansion to answer to the increasing customer base. The development and support centre will be located in the Holman Building, in downtown Summerside, which has been identified as the Centre of Excellence for e-Health.
